Our dear old friendly
neighbour has grown, from a scrawny animated creature in a twenty minute black
and white feature , beamed and lapped by
awe struck kids, like us ,in eighties to
full bodied ones in different universes , seen and lapped on a 3 D
IMAX screen, which puts you right in the middle of the
action .
We would be huddled in
a small room with just a fan , at mercy
of eccentric TV owners and equally eccentric
electricity department,to watch our twenty minutes dose of our hero.Never
bothering what we wore ,ate or the guy next me , equally awe struck , was a
driver’s or a peon’s son .It was a much a simpler world , before internet and we
were blissfully clueless about
everything .”Spider- man Spider-man does whatever a spider can ” , the jingle
from the eighties show still rings in my
head .
The audience today ,
most of them , are fancy kids affording to spend five hundred rupees for a movie ticket and another five hundred,
for snacks, of their parents money, who
themselves would think twice to
watch this beautiful movie on IMAX . They all have fancy smartphones, with internet, opening
the door to the the kind of information which probably only US Presidents had thirty years
back .These phones are used to click
pictures, during the movie ,filter and post them on social media to tell the world how cool or happy they are raising
their dopamine release
threshold inching closer to anxiety and
loads of associated issues .Incidentally
they also get bored very fast , a word alien to most of us till now.
The first Spider-man
movie also reminds me of Rocky , my
nineteen year old son , as I watched it with him and besides him I was also awestruck with the movie .The Spider
man hangover lasted for quite some time on us with me trying to drill into his
two year old soft head the values that Spider-man tries to dish out during bed
time stories.
As the saga continues,
they keep dishing out movies better than the previous one you wonder each
and every time “Can they better this
one? “. I mused the same thought again yesterday after we watched it with
Vihaan , thirteen year old boy who, like me , also hates to reach late for the
movie .I also could not stop myself from joining him and the crowd on
clapping on two- three occasion. This time they cant better this one .
Spider-man lives in
imagination of all of us, kids , and I pray that they
attempt to raise the bar again but
will Rocky , Parth, my firend’s twenty one year old son, , Vihaan , Adi
, my thirteen year old nephew will ever
grasp what Uncle Ben told Peter .
